In Memory

If you would like to leave a personal message on Cassie's memory board,
please email hamptonrutledge@aol.com.

Cassie, you were my first friend when I moved to Asheville -- the first one that gave "the new girl" a chance. I will never forget that. I remember when you found out that you had diabetes, and I remember how our "afterschool routine" changed. Get off the bus, go to your house, make popcorn, check our blood sugars together and get yours to where it needed to be, play nintendo. Over the past couple of years, I've been involved with JDRF -- meeting lots of children who are going through what you went through. And to this very day, looking back, I am just amazed. You never faltered. We were 11, and every single day . . .man, you were on it! I'm sure it was scary, but you didn't miss a beat -- at 11 -- it was something you had to do, and you just did it. You were never bitter about it --- it never made you feel weaker than everyone else. You just did it - monitoring multiple times every single day. And you held your head high, and laughed your contagious laugh, lived life to the fullest, and blessed and will continue to bless so many people.

Mr, and Mrs. Rutledge and Hampton, you all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I think it is absolutely incredible that Cassie will continue to impact lives because of everything you all are doing, as a family and in enabling others to help.Mrs. Rutledge, I am just now learning of the loss of your beautiful Cassie. I am so sorry. No one ever understand why the Lord brings his childern home so early. But his plan is perfect and his promise is true. One day we will see her again. Thank you for introducing her to me. And thank you for sharing in her and your excitement when she made the cheerleading team at Roberson. You were a very proud mom. She was a sweet girl and will always be with you and your family. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as what would have been her 30th birthday arrives. May the Lord comfort you.

I am blessed to know her and look forward to our reunion in Heaven. I pray you take comfort in our God who "...is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms..." Cassie and I worked together at Coldwell Banker for several years. I can still hear that unique laugh....she called me "LV" with a certain emphasis which always made my day. One day we found out that Asheville High was in a lock-down and Cassie was so upset. Her Mom was working at the school that day and she couldn't get a hold of her. She called her brother and was extremely upset that she couldn't get in touch with her Mom. Luckily everything turned out fine. Cassie was so proud of her family. Life goes on but will never be the same without her.........

All of us are deeply saddened by the loss of a truly amazing person. Cassie has made me smile and laugh ever since middle school and high school. She will be missed. And words can't describe this well enough. Because of Cassie I can keep smiling and laughing as I remember the life she shared with all of us.

Dear Gene, Diane and Hampton: How can I ever express how deeply sorry I am for your great loss. Cassie was always so sweet and kind to me and to Trevor. She always had that beautiful smile and that twinkle in her eyes. Everyone could just see the joy and the kindness in her. Trevor is so very sad and is having a hard time understanding, as is everyone I am sure. God is good and I believe he has a plan for everything. God must have needed another Angel, so Cassie will be that Angel. My heart and my prayers are with you and I am just a phone call away, if there is anything at all I can do. Love and Prayers Robbie & Trevor

Wow - the love and joy that radiated from Cassie each day...she truly was a kindred spirit! She made us all laugh...and I loved to hear her stories, her love for her family, how her brother would play practical jokes on her growing up and how much she loved him for it, how great her parents were...and, of course, the love she had for Molly! Always smiling, always cheerful, always living life to its fullest. She always made it a point to have M&Ms on her desk for us to snack on...always thoughtful, always positive, and always glowing. We miss her!

Its hard to imagine that we've known each other for almost 25 years now. And still to this day I can remember your beautiful smile walking up and down the halls of Glen Arden. You touched a lot of people Cassie, and leave us all with remarkable memories. I will miss you dearly and always love you. Mr.and Mrs. Rutledge, and Hampton...I cant posssibly imagine what you are experiencing right now. I am undoubtedly blessed to have grown up with Cassie. She made us all smile each and everyday. She truly reached us all in ways you cant explain.

I have some of the most wonderful memories of Cassie from middle and high school. One in particular involves Cassie trying to teach me a Roberson cheer and remaining ever so patient and optimistic as I attempted to "nail it." Pretty sure I never did. Cassie was so genuine. Genuinely nice. Genuinely caring. I know the entire TCR graduating class of '98 loved and respected her. We will all miss her deeply. My deepest condolences for Mr. and Mrs. Rutledge and Hampton. My husband and I will continue to send up many prayers for you from Chicago.

My heart breaks that this world has lost such a truly amazing person, way too soon. Cassie was loved by everyone, and I mean EVERYONE. To her parents: you reared an incredible girl to be a beautiful woman, inside and out. May you find peace during this difficult time. You were so blessed to have been given her as your daughter, and judging by the truly sincere, sweet, and loving person she became as an adult, she was so fortunate to have had you both as parents. As a friend who has known Cassie since Middle School -she will be missed by the entire Roberson class of '98.
