$2,500 Cassie Rutledge Memorial Scholarship

The LadyBug Memorial Foundation is awarding one scholarship to a senior from T. C. Roberson High School in memory of Cassie Rutledge. The scholarship offered is for $2500.00 and will be issued to an in-state accredited educational institution of the student’s choice.

The student scholarship program guidelines are as follows:

Eligibility
Deserving high school seniors from T. C. Roberson High School are eligible for this scholarship. The program shall be administered without reference to race, creed, gender, ethnic group or national origin of the candidates; however, the student must be a United States Citizen and a resident of North Carolina

Applications
Beginning February 8, potential scholarship candidates shall have the opportunity to make application for the Cassie Rutledge Memorial Scholarship to the T. C. Roberson High School Scholarship Committee.

Final Selection Process
Based upon the criteria below, the T. C. Roberson HS Scholarship Committee along with representatives from the Rutledge family may choose to interview each applicant. The scholarship recipient will receive the scholarship award at the school’s awards banquet or assembly.

Selection Criteria
Candidates will be selected upon the basis of the following factors:

• Must be accepted to a North Carolina college
• Must be in the top 25% of senior class at T.C. Roberson High School
• Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
• Must have at least one extracurricular activity
• Must spend at least 24 hours working with animals with the Humane Society or another accredited animal shelter
• Must demonstrate leadership experience and an appreciation for cultural diversity
• Must have 3 professional letters of recommendation
• Must write an essay on the topic “How meeting a major challenge in my life has changed me.”

Award
The scholarship will be a one-time grant that will vary depending on availability of funding. The grant can be used at any educational institution, including technical schools and non-degree programs.

The Director of the Buncombe County Schools Foundation shall notify each school prior to February 8th, of the amount of the scholarship award for the school year. For 2010, the award will be $2,500.00 US.

The Principal or his designee shall assure that each senior has access to the Foundation guidelines and application form well in advance of the April 15th deadline. This scholarship will not affect the student’s ability to receive any other scholarship offered by the Buncombe County Schools Foundation.
